Visit Paul Young’s shop of chocolates in London that was nominated the world’s best by The Academy of Chocolate in 2007.


 

 

It awakens and stimulates the senses. It is pure seduction one bite at a time. Countless articles, books, films and reviews have been made in its name. And we know just where to find the world’s finest, as gloriously delicious as ever.

 

You would perhaps have expected the shop itself to be located in Selfridge’s, along the streets of Mayfair, or in a corner of Carnaby Street, but certainly not in number 33 Camden Passage, only minutes away from Angel tube station. But the choice demonstrates that Paul Young, whose shop was nominated the world’s best by The Academy of Chocolate in 2007, has a magnificent sense of integrity. The shop of fine chocolates is a delight in its simplicity and therefore also a stark reminder of Lasse Hallström’s and Juliette Binoche’s interpretation of the bestselling book Chocolate.

 

 

As you enter the shop, it is the smell that first hits you, a deep heavenly aroma that lingers for a bit, only to lure you further into the shop, where you are met by the Taj Mahal of chocolate. The bars snap just right and each of the carefully handcrafted pieces of chocolate is a subtle triumph of heavenly flavours as they melt in your mouth.

 

All products, including the spices and the exquisite hot chocolate, are readily prepared in the shop basement by Paul himself, who works exclusively with Amedei and Vahlrona Crus, the Rolls Royces of raw chocolate, famous with chefs the world over and the essential base for any chocolatiere.

 

The service in this chocolaterie-patisserie mirrors the skill of the maker himself and each guest is given the time to indulge in all the flavours and aromas of chocolate on display while benefiting from expert staff.

Captain James Wadsworth once wrote 1652 sentiments about the power of chocolate. A visit to this shop should be added to that list.
